Boater Alert: Molalla River and North Santiam River Obstructions

North Santiam River Between Green’s Bridge and Jefferson -Reported 3/5/15

A fallen log blocks the entire river approximately 3.5 miles from Green’s Bridge and is considered very dangerous.  A group of rafters were trapped in the log and barely escaped.  Boaters are advised to avoid this area until officials can hire a contractor to have safe navigation created. Removal will be extremely difficult. Benton County Marine Patrol cut off  all of the limbs they could, so there could be passage on river left (picture below).  Multiple signs have been posted upstream at the boat ramp and portage/exit points (pictured below).

A clear passage was made by Benton County Marine Patrol, however, only experienced boaters should attempt to go through. Inexperienced rafters or people on inflatable craft should avoid this area entirely. Multiple logs, strainers and strong current make this area extremely dangerous.

ALL CLEAR AS OF MARCH 7, 2015!  Thanks Marion County Marine Patrol…

Several downed trees and concrete structure are obstructing the back channel just above Wagon Wheel Park.  Law enforcement officials advise staying river left and to stay on the main channel to avoid this area completely.  There are shallow areas where portage is possible.  Clackamas County is working with the landowner for assistance with mitigation and hope to remove two of the trees and creating a passage on 3-7-15.
